Michigan tree work // Utility coordination

Overhead lines change the plan.

Polgar Tree Surgeons coordinates with DTE Energy and the appropriate utility contractors when electrical infrastructure affects a tree-work project. Talk with an arborist before arranging trimming or removal near overhead wires.

Coordination before cutting.

A tree may extend toward pole-to-pole primary or secondary lines, or toward the service wires connecting a pole to a building. These are different situations. The utility must determine the electrical requirements and any necessary utility-controlled work before the affected tree work proceeds.

Tell Polgar which tree concerns you and whether DTE has already assessed the site. We coordinate the tree-work scope with DTE and its assigned contractors as the project requires. Scheduling depends on the utility's requirements, not simply on when a tree crew is available.

Primary, secondary, and service wires.

Treat all wires as energized unless the utility establishes otherwise. A covered wire is not a reason to assume it can be approached.

Utility-controlled line clearance, electrical isolation, and any required disconnection or reconnection belong with the utility and appropriately authorized personnel. Polgar's tree-work coordination does not mean electrical repair or a promise to trim directly beside energized conductors.

Do not touch a wire, a tree contacting it, or nearby equipment. Do not attempt trimming yourself. Keep people and pets away.

Working around DTE and Davey schedules.

When DTE assigns line-clearance work to a contractor such as The Davey Tree Expert Company, coordination helps establish what that crew is handling and what tree work remains for the property owner to arrange. Polgar can discuss the remaining scope, access, debris removal, and timing with you.

DTE also lists Davey Tree as an independent service-drop tree-work provider in several southeast Michigan counties. That does not mean every property is assigned to Davey. Confirm the contractor for your project with DTE.

Polgar Tree Surgeons is an independent business. Coordination does not imply ownership, endorsement, or an exclusive partnership with DTE Energy or Davey Tree.

The pole-to-house connection.

DTE distinguishes its tree-trimming program from service-drop maintenance and states that it does not trim around the line from the utility pole to a home. Discuss branches affecting that connection with DTE and a qualified tree professional before arranging work. Do not assume neighborhood trimming includes it.

Polgar can help plan the tree-work portion after the electrical requirements are established. Ask which trimming, removal, logs, branches, and cleanup are included in your quote. Utility work and privately arranged tree work may have different responsibilities and schedules.

Storm damage involving wires.

A fallen branch, leaning tree, or damaged connection can involve an electrical hazard even when the lights still work. Stay well away. Report downed or damaged lines directly to the utility. Call 911 for immediate danger, fire, or injury. Do not approach to take a photograph.

Once the utility has addressed the electrical hazard and established access requirements, contact Polgar about the remaining tree removal and cleanup. An arborist assessment does not replace the utility's electrical response.

Tell us about the tree and the lines.
