Back home, the trees deserve a plan.

Whether you noticed a low branch before heading out, a buried root flare while gardening, or damage after a storm, explain what you can see. An arborist can discuss the concern, access to the property, and the work that fits the situation.

Tree trimming and pruning address selected branches, clearance, and the structure of a tree. Tree removal takes down the standing tree; stump grinding is a separate part of the project to discuss. Ask which branches, logs, wood chips, hauling, and final cleanup are included in your quote.

AirSpade root collar excavation uses compressed air to move soil around the base of a tree. This exposes the root flare, where the trunk widens into the main roots, for an arborist to assess. It is different from removing a stump or digging out a tree.

Our 24-hour emergency tree care covers fallen trees, split tree trunks, broken branches, wind damage, ice storm damage, and lightning-damaged trees. Describe what has fallen, what remains overhead, whether a building or driveway is affected, and whether electrical wires are nearby. Do not move closer to inspect damage or take photographs.

DTE Energy // Trees & electrical lines

A tree on a power line? Contact DTE Energy first.

If DTE Energy supplies electricity to the property, report a downed power line or electrical emergency to DTE Energy at (800) 477-4747. You can also use the DTE Energy Outage Center ↗. If another company provides your electricity, contact that electrical provider. For immediate danger to people, fire, or injury, call 911.

DTE Energy advises staying at least 25 feet away from a downed power line and treating it as live. Keep away from trees, branches, fences, vehicles, or other objects touching a wire. Do not attempt to cut, drag, or move a tree that is in contact with electrical lines. A power outage does not mean a wire is de-energized.

The wires running between utility poles and the service line running from a pole toward a building can require different arrangements. DTE Energy or the responsible electrical provider must determine the electrical requirements and any necessary isolation or line work before affected tree work begins.

Once the electrical provider has addressed the hazard and established the requirements for access, contact Polgar Tree Surgeons about the tree-work portion: removing a fallen tree, handling broken limbs, clearing storm debris, and arranging cleanup. Tell us whether DTE Energy has attended and what instructions you received. Polgar’s arborist services do not replace DTE Energy’s electrical emergency response.
